Climate Change and Southern Voices

Ilmastonmuutos ja etelän äänet

Climate change, the sixth mass extinction and global inequality – clarifying complex global phenomena and their interconnections can be challenging. Future threats cause many kinds of reactions and feelings that can be good to address by turning them into action.

Foundation for Environmental Education FEE Suomi and the Siemenpuu Foundation offer a multidisciplinary learning module to support climate education.

The project Climate Change and Southern Voices offers a multidisciplinary learning module for upper comprehensive schools and upper secondary institutions. During the learning module, students are familiarised with the Agenda2030 Sustainable Development Goals – particularly with the causes, effects and solutions of climate change. Students are prompted to consider the justice issues linked to climate change and to actively seek and find solutions and ways to make a difference.

The active element of the module is a video project based on the international Young Reporters for the Environment programme. Teachers and educators can adopt the module with the help of lesson plans and a variety of background materials.

We offer complete teaching materials that aim to expand the worldview of young people and support the implementation of project-based solutionoriented education.

The aim of the project is to expand the worldview of youth as well as to increase solidarity and action toward global sustainable development. The intention is to strengthen the young people's experience that climate change affects people – and we need action to solve it – all over the world.

The perspectives of Southern actors will be introduced through the video materials produced by the project partners of the Siemenpuu Foundation. Hearing the stories being told by the actors themselves helps to understand how all of us all over the world work together towards the same goals.
